l have Indian driving license.l am currently in US.How to get International Driving Permit in US, ie, without returning back to India?

If u reside (live) in the U.S., u must obtain a driver is license from the U.S. state where u r a resident. Even with an international driving permit & a license from any country other than the U.S., it is illegal to drive in the U.S. state where u reside without a license from that state.

If u do not reside (live) in the U.S. & ur Indian driving license is expired or will be expiring, u must renew it. Even with an international driving permit, it is illegal to drive in the U.S. without a valid license issued by ur home country.

If u do not reside (live) in the U.S. & ur Indian driving license is in the English language & is not expired, u can drive in the U.S. with only the Indian driving license until either it expires or u become a U.S. resident, whichever comes first. You do not need an International Driving Permit to do so.

The only circumstance where u shoudl get an International Driving Permit is if u do not reside (live) in the U.S. & ur Indian driving license is in a language other than English. In this situation, it is best to have both the Indian license & the International Permit.

The International Driving Permit is NOT valid in the United States. It is a European thing.
