Im a 19 year old male and l have my own suzuki swift sport which l have worked hard for for the last few years. The only thing is my insurance is around £3000 a year (brand new car)........ l dont mind going on my mothers insurance for example, im not worried about not being able to build my own no claims bonus.............................

l have done a small amount of research into going onto my mothers policy and it was not that much cheaper........................are there and other ways of legal going about this?

You are asking the wrong people. Contact your agent (or your mom is ) and see what you can do. You may want to consider garaging the car for a while and driving a cheap beater. In the US, the first significant price drop comes around 23 years of age.

Try taking a Defensive Driving course. It will lower your insurance by 10 percent. call your insurance company and ask them where you can take one

There are courses you can go on to reduce the cost. IE Advanced drivers course and there is another one which your driving instructor will now about. Yes they cost you money to complete but if it reduces what you pay to the insurance companies it has got to be good. Also finding a car that does not have sport at the end of its name may reduce it a little.

Some things that you can do will cost you money but will help you.
1 Take the pass plus course,
2 Get a insurance approved alarm system
3 Take the advanced drivers course
The next one is one you might not like and that is to get a smaller car or a least one that has a lower insurance group.

Hi - ways of lowering ur car insurance... state the min mileage u will be doing a year. if u have a garage say u keep YOUR car in it. no garage, u keep it on the drive (if u have one). if u do not use it to drive to work tell the insurance company u do not need commuting cover. higher the XS u pay in event of a claim. remove all the extra covers like personal accident / legal cover if they r applied. if u have been driving for less than a year take a pass plus driving course (ask ur instructor) even though it is a new car check to see if u would get a discount for having a breakdown policy too. it will be cheap with it being a new car but could get u 10% off ur actual insurance.

No l do not think there is. l got a really good deal from a broker for mine - loads cheaper than the big boys. l also have a confession, l accidently clicked the thumbs down for your cam belt answer when l meant to click the thumbs up - l thought it was a very good answer, wo not let me change it. l am so sorry. If you have not already done this, try some of the comparison website's. Put the details into several of them, because I've found that they will quote the same insurance companies but at different prices!

Find out if u can take the Institute of Advanced Motorists test. If u pass u should be eligible for a discount on ur insurance.

The only other thing is to get older & do not have an accident.

Age (and experience) lowers ur insurance premiums. So u just have to be patient.

Statistically late teen & early twenties men r the most likely to have an accident. Your hormones (testosterone) is at its peak which promotes aggression, risk taking & a desire to show off (especially in front of ur mates or the girls), & ur lack of experience means u may not be able to handle a car as well as u may think u can especially at speed.

Drive defensively at all times. Treat everyone else on the road as an idiot (most actually are).

To really appreciate what speed & road conditions can do get yourself on a motorbike. You will then find out what the merest bit of rain does to ur grip especially after a dry spell, & by being a ''vulnerable'' road user u gain a huge appreciation of how to keep yourself out of danger.
