It is cancelled in ur old state, & usually sent to the DMV id section. In some places it is punched & returned to you. An exception is a German licence. Because it is a $5,000 licence, it is not punched or kept, it is returned, so the person has it if they ever move back to Germany. All Canadian US licences r cancelled when u r issued ur new one. When we had new residents come into our office, we would receive telephone confirmation of the cancellation imediately the new Manitoba licence was issued, whether it was from Ontario, or New York, it did not matter.
