l got a provisional licence nearly two years ago, and at the time my eyesight met the DVLA is requirements of being able to read a number plate from 20 or 20.5 metres. Now l have found that l cannot do this, but I am taking my practical driving test in October, which is when l will get a full licence. Does anyone know if l need to apply for a new provisional licence, declaring l wear glasses to drive, or just wear them until l apply for a full licence. Nothing l have found on the internet, official websites etc. answer this question.

you will have to let them know l do not know if you can take your test without telling them

l didnt tell them l just took my driving test with my glasses on and they did not say anything

l would just wear them and not mention it. If you are worried have a word with a local driving school

l do not know the official answer, but as you're aware in the practical test u r required to read a number plate. If u wear glasses then l can not see why this is a problem.

As u r concerned l would contact the DVLA, either by phone or email & ask whether this will affect ur provisional licence. l cannot see why not, & if anything they may just be grateful to have been made aware, but they're certainly not going to take it off you! Think of how many people wear glasses!

l am just wondering is your provisional license still valid because it runs out after a certain time? And l would get in touch with DVLA and tell them your change of circumstances and see what advice they give, also ask your driving instructor if you have one as they will know the regulations. When you start your driving exam the first thing they will do is check your eyesight so its best to get it sorted sooner rather than later. Hope this helps!

You've no need to tell anyone, all you are required to do is read the numberplate, with or without glasses/lenses. You will, of course, wear them when driving as driving with uncorrected defective eyesight is a serious offence

Strangely, although a pilot is licence may state that you must wear corrective lenses and carry a spare pair, there is nothing to that effect regarding driving licences.

When l updated my old paper license for the new plastic one, one of the questions on the form was did l wear glasses for driving. No doubt the same will apply when you get your new full license.
